Václav Havel Airport (PRG)

eSIM for Prague

Short answer

You need a Czech Republic eSIM — there is no Prague-only plan. Prague is compact and wifi-dense, so a small bundle goes a long way.

Czech Republic plans currently start at $1.22 across 6 providers. Compare all 616 plans →

Nobody sells a Prague eSIM. What you want is a Czech Republic plan, which covers Prague along with the rest of the country and costs the same whether you leave the city or not. The useful question is therefore not which Prague eSIM to buy but how much data Prague actually needs — and the answer is less than most visitors assume.

How much data do you need in Prague?

Trip typeSuggestedWhy
Long weekend3 GBPrague is a walking city with dense café and hotel wifi. Data mostly covers transit routing and restaurant lookups.
A week with day trips5 GBČeský Krumlov, Kutná Hora and Karlovy Vary all stay well covered on the drive out.
Remote work10 GB+Prague is a established nomad base with good coworking wifi, so mobile data is mostly a backup.

Coverage in Prague

Prague has excellent coverage on all three networks. The metro carries mobile signal through the tunnels on lines A, B and C, which is not true of every European metro, so you can navigate underground without surfacing. Tram coverage is complete, and the outer districts and Vyšehrad are as well served as the centre.

Arriving in Prague

Václav Havel Airport has free wifi, so you can install and activate on arrival if you did not do it beforehand. There is no train link — bus 119 to Nádraží Veleslavín then metro line A is the standard route into town, and you will want data working for that.

What catches people out

Search for Czechia if you cannot find the Czech Republic

Providers use both names interchangeably in coverage lists. If a plan does not appear to include one, check the other before assuming it is not covered.

The Czech Republic is in the EU, so EU SIMs roam free

If you are travelling from another EU country you do not need to buy anything. This is a plan for UK, US, Canadian and Australian visitors.

You will want data for the taxi apps specifically

Prague's street taxis have a long-standing reputation for overcharging tourists. Bolt and Uber both operate and both need a live connection to book.
